Look Out! It's Sharia!

** GOP Sharia fearmongering in Tennessee:  An article by Ali Gharib at Think Progress says a bill has passed through committee in both chambers of the state legislature claiming that Sharia law is “inextricably linked” to its “war doctrine known as jihad.” The law provides for a minimum 15-year sentence for knowingly providing “material support or resources to a designated sharia organization." It states explicitly that it is not targeting Islam because people are allowed the freedom to worship individually, but it defines a "sharia organization" as "any two (2) or more persons conspiring to support of acting in convert in support of, Sharia."

The bill’s key sponsor in the Senate, Sen. Bill Ketron (R), has previously proposed that the state consider creating its own currency in case the Fed collapses.

** GOP Sharia fearmongering everywhere else: Another ThinkProgress article, by Scott Keyes, claims that former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum called Sharia an “existential threat to America,” and presidential candidate Herman Cain told ThinkProgress that should he be elected, he would not appoint a Muslim in his administration because of the threat of Sharia.

Candidate Gary Johnson, though, said,"Is there a Sharia problem that needs to be banned? I’ve never seen it personally. I haven’t seen it. I haven’t seen it.... I have never seen it to be a problem anywhere." Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX), another presidential hopeful, has also said he sees no threat from Sharia.

In his article, Keyes says:
The godfather of the anti-Sharia movement, Frank Gaffney, told ThinkProgress in January that the Muslim Brotherhood has “infiltrated” the United States government. Last month, Gaffney accused Gen. David Petraeus of “submission” to Sharia law.
Another TP article, by Tanya Somanaderer, says that between 15 and 20 states have passed or are pursuing some form of anti-Sharia measure.

What's wrong with these people? Don't they realize the country has problems that need to be addressed?
